Pastor Jim grew up in Tucson, AZ.  After graduating from UCLA in 1986, he was commissioned in the USAF and stationed at F.E. Warren AFB, WY.  He met his wife Shauna there and married in 1990.  As their family grew they were stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, Schriever AFB, CO, NSWC Dahlgren, VA, and several locations in Washington D.C. area until he retired in 2011.  They have two grown children, Chase and Leta,  who live in Virginia.  Pastor Jim entered the Seminary in 2012 and had a wonderful vicarage experience at Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, NC.  He is excited to follow God’s desires in His Call to serve First Lutheran Church and the community in Southern Maryland.  May the Peace of Christ be with you all!

Music Director

A graduate of The University of Delaware, Northwestern, and the University of Maryland, Robert has been a member of First Lutheran for 19 years. When not involved in making music he enjoys birdwatching, boating, kayaking and spending time with his family and two feisty Boston Terriers.  

 

Angie Hohl

Little Lambs Preschool Program Director

Angie  has been serving as  Program Director since Little Lambs became a licensed preschool in September, 2000. She and her husband Kevin have been members of First Lutheran since 1986. They have raised their 4 children in Calvert County. When not at school Angie enjoys walking especially by the beach, crafting, word puzzles and trivia.

 

Shawn Maassel

Director of Christian Education

Shawn graduated from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana in 1986 with a degree in psychology and pre-physical therapy.  She continued on to complete a second bachelor's degree in physical therapy at the University of Maryland at Baltimore.  Shawn worked as a physical therapist until 1999 when she began serving First Lutheran as our 'Minister of Family Life, Youth and Education.'  After completing the LCMS's DCE colloquy program through Concordia, St. Paul (2007,) she accepted a Call as our Director of Christian Education.  She and her husband Paul live in St. Leonard, MD, and have three grown children and a daughter in law.  In addition to her role as DCE at First Lutheran, she leads some of our fitness classes as an ACE-certified group fitness instructor with Body & Soul Fitness and serves as a Networking Leader for MD-DC-VA with First Place 4 Health.
 

Susan Fogleman

Youth Director

Susan began attending First Lutheran Church in 1992 with her parents. She went through confirmation at the church and was active in youth group growing up. She graduated from Concordia University Chicago as a Director of Christian Education with a bachelor’s degree in theology. She did her DCE internship in New Orleans, LA at Camp Restore and was then Called there to continue serving. In 2009, she moved back to Huntingtown to care for her father full-time. She continues to live there with her mother and two cats. She also enjoys volunteering at a local horse rescue and spending time with the horses there.
 

Nancy Pope

Adminstrative Church Secretary

Prior to being employed at First Lutheran, Nancy was employed as a legal secretary at a patent firm in Washington, D.C. for nearly thirty years.  She officially joined the staff at First Lutheran as the Administrative Church Secretary in April of 2013.  Nancy lives in Waldorf, MD, with her husband, Darryl.  Nancy has two sons, a daughter-in-law and three granddaughters.

Christine Marcus

Church Secretary

Christine grew up in Southern Maryland. Christine previously worked as an office manager for 11 years in Charles County.  After Christine had her son, she was able to become a stay at home mom, but once her son reached school age, she decided to re-enter the workforce here at First Lutheran Church as a part–time Receptionist. Christine resides in Calvert County, with her husband and son.
